Seneca was a Roman philosopher, statesman, and dramatist who lived between 4 BCE - 65 CE. He was a prominent figure in the Roman Empire during the reigns of emperors Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. He was a Stoic philosopher, which means that he focused on developing self-control and resilience in the face of adversity, and the idea that one should strive to live in harmony with nature and reason.

Seneca wrote extensively on philosophy and his works include moral essays, letters, and tragedies. He was particularly known for his moral essays which focused on how to live a virtuous life and deal with difficult situations. He believed that the key to a good life was to focus on what one can control, and to accept what one cannot control. He also wrote on ethics, politics, and natural philosophy.

Seneca's ideas had a significant influence on later Stoic philosophers and his works continue to be studied and admired to this day, especially his moral essays which are considered as one of the greatest works of moral philosophy in Antiquity. He also was a tutor of emperor Nero and played a role in the Roman politics.
